Prospecting in the new environment entails two distinct differences from the past. First, this economy is very unfamiliar to most people and prospecting or growing your business in a down environment is not only challenging, it is new. It can be done by evidence of my sales force increasing its distribution by almost forty percent during this recession.
Secondly, there is a internet revolution that has two distinct effects. The first is that consumers now can get information, thus the way we sell and prospect has to considered when, approaching a new potential customer. Next, the mechanics of the internet affords us salespeople the ability to be much more efficient in canvassing, organizing, researching and a whole host of other necessary tools.
It is an exciting time if you are good at using all the new things available in this market. What Don has see in his travels and exchanges is fear, denial, resistance to change, doubt and acceptance of failure. All of that really opens the door for those who can venture out and embrace the change through trial and error and experimentation.
